Twilight star Kirsten Stewart recalls working with “first love” Pattinson, engaged to Dylan Meyers!

In an exclusive interview dated November 15 to the New Yorker magazine, Kirsten Stewart spoke up about her relationship with former co-star and ex, Robert Pattinson and admitted how she knew he was the “one” immediately to play Edward Cullen for the Twilight movie franchise.

Kirsten Stewart and Robert Pattinson became a teen heartthrob and one of the most shipped couples of Hollywood after they were cast as Bella Swan and Edward Cullen in the cult teenage fiction movie Twilight, a movie adaptation from Stephanie Meyers’ book by the same name. They even won MTV’s teen couple of the year award and within a year of playing the movie’s lead couple the two co-stars started dating in real life.

As Stewart opened up about her ex, she recalled how the film’s director Catherine Hardwick, had the Good Time star come to her house in Los Angeles to read lines — and make out. She had felt then and there only that the two of them just clicked. Pattinson’s audition stint almost swept Kirsten off her feet, combined with his casual arrogance that comes only with a young age and intellectual approach. He was almost fit for the role of the bloodthirsty vampire Edward Cullen who would later fall in love with a human girl, Bella, played by Stewart herself. Their chemistry was almost effortless and instantaneous and it showed on screen. Kirsten called them then “both young and stupid” but they made it work.

“But that’s what it needed, and that’s what anybody playing those parts needed to feel”, she continued. They dated for 4 years but then split up when word got out regarding the actress’ infidelity with her then film director, Rupert Sanders, from Snow White and the Huntsman. The additional pressure from both the paparazzi and public and fans strained their relationship and even though they got back together for a brief period of time, it never worked out. And they ultimately called it quits. “It was incredibly painful. … Relationships — you just never f—king know,” Stewart told The Daily Beast of her public breakup.

“So much was taken from us that, in trying to control one aspect, we were just like, ‘No, we will never talk about it. Never. Because it’s ours,’” she continued. The actress who’s about to star in Spencer’s Diana later admitted how Pattinson was her “first love,” and she probably would have married him if he had asked at the time. She added that she was not “super duper traditionalist” but would have probably said yes had he proposed.

Stewart got engaged to Dylan Meyers a few months back this year, after making the headlines when she opened up about her bisexuality. She said they were totally going to do it and the time seemed as good as any to put a ring on the finger, after two years of exclusive dating. When asked if she would be interested in playing the character Joker opposite Pattinson’s Batman in the upcoming movie, she did not reject the idea totally but instead kept the question hanging in the air.

“I love the energy behind that,” Stewart told Variety last month after fans started a petition to get her cast in the next film. “[But] let’s figure something else out. I’m totally down to play a freaky, scary person.”
