Jada Pinkett Smith opens up about her fight with alopecia, owns up to losing hair and much more.

Hollywood celebrity and former wife to Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith opened up about her ordeal with hair loss and alopecia in an extremely personal Instagram post on Tuesday, December 28. Smith who is also the host of The Red Table Talk  has been pretty candid to the media and her fans regarding her hair loss journey. Finally she decided to shave off her head completely and own up to the disease instead of running from it or living in denial.

The Matrix star first revealed she had alopecia in 2018 when she was spotted wearing turbans in her talk show. In an episode of Red Table Talk, Jada Smith explained how one morning she woke up to find clumps of hair falling off her head. She called it as nothing short of a terrifying reality check that she was indeed losing hair, so much so that it started leaving off bald patches on her scalp. It was a terrifying experience for the actress who was especially attached to her beautiful, thick and black crown of hair and felt robbed of having the choice to or not to take care of her hair.

My hair has been a big part of me. Taking care of my hair has been a beautiful ritual — and having the choice to have hair or not,” Smith who also happens to be the founder of a self-help group, Hey Humans, said on the talk show. “And then one day to be like, ‘Oh my god, I might not have that choice anymore.”

Jada Pinkett Smith revealed that she gave into shaving off her head completely after receiving a little nudge from daughter, Willow.  “Willow made me do it because it was time to let go BUT … my 50’s are bout to be Divinely lit with this shed,” she wrote in her Instagram post along with a picture of herself and her daughter, the Whip my Hair singer.

When asked how her husband, Will Smith reacted to her shaved head, the actress replied “He loves it,” adding that he even sent a picture of her new look to daughter Willow Smith and thought she looked stunning. Jada then talked guest Tiffany Haddish on her episode of Red Table Talk through her entire journey with alopecia and what led her to go bald. According to her, this was not a whimsical decision but really something she had been thinking about for quite some time, ever since she found out about her disease.

“It was just time. I was just ready for that kind of expression and release. I’m so glad I did it. It was such a beautiful experience and such a freedom. I feel more connected to myself and to the great diving in a very special way,” the actress said in her Facebook watch video. After careful deliberation, she decided it was time to let go and her daughter provided her the extra confidence and nudge.

When Smith debuted her shaved look on Instagram, she was immediately greeted with a swarm of love, support and appreciation from fans and followers all over the world. Apparently they are more excited about how Smith would accessorise her new look for her next red carpet appearance and embrace the bald head. In her Instagram post, Smith said, “Y’all know I’ve been struggling with alopecia and just all of a sudden one day, look at this line right here. Look at that. It just showed up like that and this is going to be a little bit more difficult to hide, so I thought I’d just share it so y’all are not asking any questions.”

She then went on to joke about her look saying she was thinking of adding some extra bling and rhinestones to her crown, so the fans and media better watch out for that.
