by In what could be only labelled as a season of break ups, Jacob Elordi split from year long girlfriend, Kaia Gerber only weeks after making a stunning red carpet debut together celebrating the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures’ opening gala. The news came as a shock to fans all over the world, but insiders say this was bound to happen and new reports claim their split was “a long time coming.”
The news of their breakup was made public by E! News on November 18, when a source confirmed “they split, and it is amicable.” Immediately after the public break-up, both the parties have taken down each other’s pictures from their Instagram feed. However they still follow each other on social media which is some relief.
The two were spotted out hanging together for the first time on September 2020 while walking around New York City and engaging in a slight cosy display of PDA. The very same month the couple was spotted vacationing with Gerber’s parents, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, in Mexico. However they went public with the relationship and made it official when Gerber decided to post pictures of their Halloween costumes on her Instagram wall. Jacob followed suit and they indeed made a stunning pair dressed as rock ‘n’ roll lovers Elvis and Priscilla Presley. Elordi donned a blue suit, gold aviator glasses, sideburns and the “Heartbreak Hotel” singer’s signature pompadour and Kaia wore lavender eye makeup and lipstick with an over-the-top bouffant. They were later photographed leaving a party dressed in retro-looking costumes. This was the last time paparazzi spotted them together.
Ever since this, the couple would engage in passionate displays of their affection with the model and “American Horror Story” actress featuring a slideshow from her 20th birthday party where Elordi was playfully grabbing Gerber’s breasts as they posed and smiled for the camera. A few days after the birthday celebration, the two made their first and only appearance together at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Opening Gala in Los Angeles on Sept. 25 for the red carpet event.
Fans started speculating that their relationship soured since then when Gerber took down multiple photos of her and Elordi together from her wall. Although the exact reason for their split is not known, assumptions are that they had conflicting work schedules and were not able to spend as much time with each other as they’d like to make the relationship work. In talks with InTouch, an insider explained: “It seemed like they were going backward instead of forward and that’s why it wasn’t working.”
It came quite as a shock to the fans since they were previously reported as a couple “waiting to happen” and “meant to be”. They had a lot in common from both being models and having modelled for Calvin Klein, to both being very much into fashion and sharing a mutual fetish for shopping. Gerber had previously opened up about her relationship at an interview with Vogue in May 2021, noting that they didn’t “want anything from each other.” She explained that they were in a “safe, steady relationship,” which led to her seeing the “possibilities of love.”
Although things didn’t quite work out with the duo despite sharing such common interests and bond, they left off quite amicably, which is more than what most people of our generation can claim.
