Gear up for season 2 of White Lotus and everything you need to know about it!

Sitcom lovers, this is news for you!! Comedy drama series White Lotus is getting renewed for a second season, much to their fans’ excitement, HBO confirmed on November. The show that was first aired in July 2021, is a satirical drama series created by Mike White under the HBO box office mini series production house. The first season which had only since episodes chronicles the lives of the staff and guests who take resort at a tropical getaway, The White Lotus in Hawaii.

Boasting an ensemble cast like Alexandra Daddario, Jennifer Coolidge, Murray Bartlett and Connie Britton, it details one week in the lives of the vacationers at the resort which eventually take a dark turn as they discover dark secrets and unravel hidden truths about each other, all the while against the backdrop of the idyllic location which also gives the name of the series.

Upon its release, the show received well rounded critical acclaim with a rating of 88% based on 84 critic reviews on Rotten tomatoes and score of 82 out of 100 based on 38 critics, indicating “universal acclaim” on Metacritic. Poetic, occasionally hilarious with a gripping plot, frequently uncomfortable and oft times quite crisp yet intriguing, the series has all the potential to become a chart topper and leave an indelible mark. And what’s more? The cast and crew of the White Lotus are gearing up for another season.

The second season as far as the production house and the directors have revealed won’t necessarily continue from where it left off in season 1. Instead this would be an anthology of sorts, with another guest line-up , retaining a few of the original cast members, who would follow essentially a similar plot but not against the backdrop of Hawaii. Instead this group of motley crowd or travellers would settle to some other part of the world, another property of the White Lotus establishment. The exact location or details have not been revealed yet but they are planning to do the show somewhere outside the States, possibly that would be cheaper than the Four seasons at Maui, like Kyoto. Mark White even went a step ahead to add that they were thinking of bringing a cultural clash angle to the series which might add to the thrill of it.

White again went on record to say they made one year contract with the actors but would not necessarily bring them all together or back for season 2, maybe just a few characters in guest roles depending on their availability. But a good news is that Legally Blonde actress Jennifer Coolidge will be back, though it’s still up for speculation whether she’d be reprised in her old role or play a completely new character.

“They haven’t told me what the script is,” Coolidge told Entertainment Tonight in November 2021. “But, I hope I have lots of romance and sex in this next one. I felt like I didn’t get enough of that in the first one.”

Coolidge seemed pretty excited that she was getting to come back for a second season of the show. She gushed about how it has been probably the most popular thing she has starred in till date and it wouldn’t matter to her what role she played or what the plot was, as long as it kept up with the success of the first season as well as the sky-high expectations.
