Son of cosmetologist Veronica Gutiérrez and Melvin Booker, former point guard at Missouri and named as the 1994 Big Eight Player of the Year . He spent early days of his childhood with his mother, while his father would be away playing at international games and on tours. Booker started playing for freshman, junior varsity and varsity basketball teams right from an early age and soon joined under his father’s tutelage at Moss Point High School, post the player’s retirement from the league. He scored a lot of points for his home team and averaged 22.8 points per game. He got named the South Mississippi Player of the Year by the Sun Herald, becoming just the second sophomore to be awarded the honour. Devin Booker signed a draft with the NBA in 2015 under Phoenix Suns and in seven subsequent Summer League games, he averaged 15.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. He doubted for the Sun’s in their opening match against Dallas Mavericks and became the first player in NBA history to debut at 18 years old after playing at least one year of college basketball. Booker quickly made it to the top ranks of the team following an injury of a fellow teammate Eric Bledsoe and joined the names of former basketball stars like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James as an upcoming young player to score more than 20+ points at once in the league. More recently in 2018, Booker signed a five-year, $158 million maximum contract extension with the Suns and scored 35 points in a 121–100 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. Booker became the fifth youngest player in NBA history to reach 5,000 career points, behind LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, and Dwight Howard.
Booker also got nominated for the Seeding Games MVP award (earned for the best overall performance in the NBA’s resumed regular season games), and also earned a spot for one of the All-Seeding Games Teams while serving time in the NBA bubble.
